Heart Month: Wear Red Day

We are excited and proud to partner with and support the American Heart Association to help educate consumers together on the importance of prevention of heart disease and stroke awareness.

February is American Heart Month. During the month, thousands of American Heart Association volunteers visit their neighbors. Their goal is to raise funds for research and education and pass along information about heart disease and stroke.  Learn how you can participate in American Heart Month by reading below.

NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY
Friday, February 7, 2014

More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood.  That’s why Go Red for Women is asking the women of Denver to participate in the 10th Annual National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 1, 2013, to make ending heart disease a reality.
Wear Red Day is an important part of the Go Red For Women goal to build awareness and urge women to take concrete actions to reduce their risk of heart disease, and to raise necessary funds for research and education.  By joining with hundreds of other individuals and organizations taking part in Wear Red Day, you can help us continue our efforts.

Why Take Action
  • Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women – killing more women than all forms of cancer combined. Most women don’t notice the symptoms of heart disease until it’s too late, which is why heart disease has been called the silent killer. But we won’t be silent.
  • For more than a decade, millions of women have united to raise their voices about this silent killer. While we’ve made remarkable progress, nearly 1,100 women are still dying each day. But, with your help, many more lives can be saved.
  • 90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.
  • Heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined, but is often undiagnosed.  1 in 30 women die from breast cancer each year.  1 in 3 dies of cardiovascular disease.
  • Raising your voice and sharing how you or your loved ones have overcome heart disease is the strongest action you can take. Go Red For Women is encouraging all women who have been impacted by heart disease to speak red by telling their personal stories of diagnosis, treatment and survival against women’s No. 1 killer.
For 10 years, women have been fighting heart disease individually and together as part of the Go Red for Women movement. Across the U.S. more than 627,000 women’s lives have been saved, and 330 fewer women are dying per day.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, yet only one in five American women believe heart disease is her greatest health threat. With the right information, education and care, heart disease in women can be treated, prevented, and even ended. Visit GoRedForWomen.org for more information.
