'30 Rock,' 'How I Met Your Mother' & More Are Leaving Netflix

It's time to get your binge on!

September 19, 2017

If you have been binging How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, or Friday Night Lights or The Wonder Years, you better hurry. These shows are all expected to be leaving the popular streaming service soon.

In fact, 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights will be removed from Netflix on October 1.

Netflix confirmed the news about 30 Rock saying that their license had expired. It’s not clear, however, if 30 Rock will surface on another streaming service. So you can say goodbye to Liz Lemon... for now.

The fact that How I Met Your Mother is leaving Netflix this fall is NOT really a surprise, to be honest. An official date of departure for How I Met Your Mother has not been announced, but some published reports suggest that it will happen by mid-November.

20th Century Fox (the company responsible for the program) signed a partnership with Hulu earlier this summer. The studio is basically giving Hulu access to a TON of their programming. That deal isn’t technically “exclusive,” but according to published reports, Netflix does not want to compete with other services that offer the same content.

Other shows (currently available on Netflix) that will fall victim the new deal by the end of September:

  • Rob Lowe’s The Grinder
  • The early-00’s sitcom Malcom in the Middle
  • Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing

Meanwhile, One Tree Hill, The Wonder Years, and Friday Night Lights are also leaving Netflix on October 1st.
