Slacker and Steve - GMD: Making the Move (Audio)

July 6, 2017

Today's Great Mate Debate couple is Charles and Laura. They need your help to pick a side and end their debate!

Charles and Laura are married and have a 16-year-old daughter, Emma. Charles just got a promotion at work that will require them to move.  Laura wants Charles to take the job, but she is arguing that she wants to stay here with Emma until she finishes high school. Emma will be a junior this fall and is an introvert and has had a very hard time making friends growing up. She has one good friend that she met when she started high school and that’s been pretty much her only friend in life. Laura doesn’t want to yank Emma away from her only friend, her school, and her home, and have her struggle her last two years of high school. Laura says she will move with Charles when Emma goes to college. Charles thinks it’s absolutely ridiculous that Laura would even think about staying. He says that the job will be significant promotion and a lot more money than he’s making now. It’s a job he has to take but he doesn’t want to be without his family for 2 years. He says that Emma is part of the family and will have to make some sacrifices just like everyone else. She will learn to adapt and the move could help her gain some confidence and become more extroverted.

Should they all move together or should Laura stay here with Emma until she finishes high school?

Slacker and Steve - GMD: Making the Move 7/6

Charles was offered a promotion that would cause he and his family to move. His wife, Laura, wants to stay behind with their extremely introverted 16-year-old daughter to get her through high school, then move. He doesn't want to be apart from his family on account of their daughter's inability to make friends. Should they all make the move or just Charles?
