Toilet Injuries

Everyone uses one multiple times a day, and it has a dangerous side that rears its ugly head from time to time…
June 23 - Flushmate, a division of Sloan Valve Company, is recalling more than two million toilet flushing systems after reports of several injuries.
The recall was issued for the Flushmate III Pressure-Assist Flushing System – about 2,330,600 in the U.S. and 9,400 in Canada. The system can burst at or near the vessel weld seam releasing stored pressure. This pressure can lift the tank lid and shatter the tank, posing impact or laceration hazards to consumers and potential property damage, according to a U.S. Consumer Protection Product Safety Commission press release.
Flushmate has received 304 reports of the product bursting, resulting in property damage and 14 impact or laceration injuries.
The product was sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s stores, as well as distributors and plumbing contractors nationwide. It was also sold to toilet manufacturers such as American Standard, Crane, Eljer, Gerber, Kohler, Mansfield, and St. Thomas.
What was your toilet injury?
An old friend of mine fell asleep on the toilet when he was a kid…His mom woke him up and as he was regaining his bearings and trying to get the circulation back in his legs, he fell down the stairs and broke his ankle!  In another story, my brother got his bits smashed by the seat when it came crashing down when he was 4 or 5 years old.
