Producer Dave's wife's birthday is coming up...He's invited about 25-30 people to the birthday party thinking she'd pick a reasonably priced place to eat. She doesn't have any idea they're attending. She told him she really wants to go a costly place to eat. He assumed most people would say “No, thanks.”
Steve thinks that if you get invited to a birthday party, it’s just like a wedding! It’s all on the host. Steve will bring a gift for Megan and then he gets to eat for free. Steve wanted to know if the family would understand and Dave replied that Slacker and Steve don't know his family very well!
In Slacker’s opinion, it’s family! He doesn’t think he should have to pay. Either way, Slacker thinks Dave is screwed. Dave will need to find a 2nd job! Slacker knows how much money Dave makes and he knows for a fact he can’t afford it! He also said to make sure you make it known as soon as people start to show up. Take them to the bar make it clear Dave will buy the first drink and the rest is their responsibility. Dave failed to do that up front and it’s probably much too late for that conversation at this point.
Dave’s decided to throw a party at a pizza joint around the corner and then take his wife out to dinner the following night to ensure she gets the best of both worlds!
Do you think he should pay for everybody?
I think he can start the party and provide the initial drink and food, but that’s it! Make sure you pay for your wife’s night, both times! That’s all you need to worry about. Besides the family should know you’re starting a life together which includes being financially responsible. They will understand…Trust me!
