A North Texas youth football group has decided that it will stop awarding trophies simply for participation. In order to get a statue, players with the Keller Youth Association's football program will have to advance to and win the league's Super Bowl. This year, the league will award participation medals to participants instead. The KYA board feels participation medals and trophies do not send kids the right message.
From KYA Football facebook page:
"So we have been asked a gazillion times if we are giving participation trophies this year and the answer is no. However we will be giving participation medals and those that win Super Bowls will get trophies...
Going forward participation medals or trophies will be going away. KYA Football board feels that giving participation medals or trophies isn't sending our children the right message. Trophies are something you should strive for and earn. Life does not give you a participation job or medal, life makes you earn everything you get. We know not everyone will agree but we feel this is the right direction for KYA Football to go in...."
Do you think all kids should be awarded participation trophies? Do they send kids the right message?
