OPP: Touchy-Feely Co-Worker

Yi!

Tim joined us live on the air to share his OPP today. He is a maintenance worker and is constantly put on jobs with another guy. Whenever they are on a job, the other guy will put his arm around him while they are discussing things or do that shoulder rub/massage thing to him. It makes him really uncomfortable and he thinks his co-worker might be trying to hit on him.

Do you think he's reading it to it too much? How do you deal with someone that is overly physical?

Touchy feely co worker
He needs to tell his co worker face to face that his touching is unwanted. It doesn't matter if it's a guy or girl doing it, unwanted touching is inappropriate. If that doesn't work he needs to file a complaint with human resources without fear of retribution. Whether this guy is homosexual or not he should keep his hands to himself.

Just a thought
Anyone who is uncomfortable with physical touching should have the right to say stop. That said, be aware of how you say it. Tone the ego down, while the co worker might be into you, they might just be a more physical person. Just cause you think he's gay and you're a guy, doesn't mean he wants you. Don't flatter yourself. I guess I view it as the same when guys assume we're (women) flirting with them, when we're just being friendly. Just cause people are friendly, doesn't mean they want to sleep with you.. That said, of course you have the right to say stop if you're uncomfortable, just don't be an a-hole about it.

My opinion
I was listening to "Tim" on the way home and I have the following points to make: We have always taught our children that a confrontation consists of three things - a victim, a perpetrator and a location. Eliminate one and there is no confrontation. Tim can just as easily stay at arms length from his co worker and continue to move away when co worker steps closer, he can be friendly and state if asked that that is his comfort zone or personal space whatever, but after enough times the guy will get the point. If that does not solve the issue do as I was taught, you get one warning, simply state nicely that if he cannot stop you will talk to HR, every company should have sexual harassment SOP's and do as you say. Now my biggest and last point is that I take an EXTREME exception to him and to Lauren who said that "men" take these jobs to scout out other males for a pickup. Seriously? I realize you have the right to free speech, but the only reason you have that is because our military fights for that right and as a military mom of 4 (yes you read that right - 4 ((2 Sailors, a soldier and a marine 2 girls and 2 boys)) my sons and daughters protect your sorry racist attitude towards gays. The next time you see a soldier, Sailor, Marine, or Airman, man up and thank them for their service and shake their hand, gay or not they fight for your right to say stupid petty things like you did on todays show. Reminds me of a joke I once read: A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU . One day the professor shocked the class when he came in he looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, 'God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes.' The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, 'Here I am God. I'm still waiting.' It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him, knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked, stunned, and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, 'What the heck is the matter with you? Why did you do that?' The Marine calmly replied, 'God was too busy today protecting American soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So, He sent me.'
