OPP: Teen Co-Ed Sleepover

Today’s OPP comes from a listener that didn’t want to give her name:
“My 15 year-old daughter has asked me if she can start sleeping over at her boyfriend's house on the weekends. He is 16 and has a spare bedroom because his 21 year-old sister just moved out. I like Rich and I know his parents will be home. My ex is leaving the decision up to me. My heart says YES, but my head says NO. Which one should I listen to? My daughter says all of her friends are now doing co-ed sleepovers.”
Slacker immediately yelled, “Go with the head. Your heart is stupid.” He basically felt like his father… Would you jump off a bridge if all your friends were jumping off a bridge, too? Steve knows something is going to try to happen and Slacker knows she is trying to dispel that by saying there is a spare bedroom. Slacker says it doesn’t have to be in the middle of the night to have relations with each other and whether she sleeps over or not, it’s not going to stop them. Our producer’s parents got him a hotel room at 16-years-old and on co-ed trips they always created a spare room for relations!
Are co-ed sleepovers really that common now? What do you think our OPP writer should do?
I can already tell that as the person I’ve become and the parent I can already feel myself being, is that I am going to react in the exact same way Slacker did…She should not be sleeping over at her boyfriend’s house! Maybe when she hits the age of 18, maybe 17, but otherwise come on, you can’t even drive yet! Have relations all you want, but stop trying to come up with ways to make it happen. Honesty people!
Peace. Love – Assistant Producer Stephanie
