Today’s OPP is from Kaitlyn
Hello! My name is Kaitlyn and I have a problem that I could really use an outside opinion on. Me and my boyfriend have been together for about a year and a half. He has two kids from a previous marriage that I instantly fell in love with. 4 months after we had been together we found out I was pregnant so I moved in with him and everything was perfect for awhile! Medical roadblocks caused me to have an extremely high risk pregnancy and I had to quit my job and be on bed rest. Now my son is 6 months old and I care for all three of the kids all day... Everyday. His ex wife never helps us out she hasn't come to see them, hasn't taken them on the weekends, hasn't sent a penny. His job isn't cutting it with three kids and no support but he doesn't want to file for child support because he 'promised' his ex wife he never would and he 'doesn't want to start anything'. We have bills piling up, we can barely feed the kids, we are so far behind on rent we are on the edge of eviction, we get disconnection notices every month from the energy company, and quite frankly I'm exhausted. I bend over backwards to keep it all together I even take his kids to a church I don't even follow! Now I am job hunting so we can make ends meet every month but I don't want to be financially responsible for his children if he refuses to make his ex wife do anything. Is it unfair to ask that he pays for his kids childcare, food, clothing, and 50% of our child’s needs then we can split the household costs 50/50? I love him and I want to be with him but he has a wishbone where his back bone needs to be.
I hope you guys can help. If anyone can it’s you two!
Slacker thinks her boyfriend is the only one that can get the ex to help pay for some things. He thinks both the ex and the boyfriend are taking advantage of her. If the boyfriend wanted to support his family he would get a higher paying job and make a bigger effort. He says he understands that their child is a large reason she stays in the relationship but other than that she is just getting taken advantage of
Steve doesn’t think it’s fair that she has to do all the work to support the family. He doesn’t think that it the relationship is worth it. He thinks she should get out of the relationship before she gets invested any further. He doesn’t think she is benefiting what so ever and it would be worth it in the long run to end the relationship before she loses more money.
