OPP: Now Skinny Not Happy

Today’s OPP comes from Christy. She wrote to us with an issue she’s having with her weight loss…

Yi! I’ve been heavy set my entire life and always really happy. But having gotten older and seeing how much easier life is for thin people, I ended up basically starving myself and working out until I lost over 50 pounds. Everyone is so impressed and keeps telling me how great I look, but I don’t feel any better than I did before … in fact, I think I was happier at 200 pounds. I’m thinking of intentionally putting the weight back on. Is that crazy??

Slacker understands this dilemma. He knows some super fit people. Sometimes, they are the least happy people he knows. Food is sustenance. People who are uber fit don’t derive any satisfaction from the food they eat. They eat what they need to survive. On the other end of that pretty little rainbow, if you gain satisfaction from every meal you eat, your probably overweight! Slacker thinks he needs to lose 10 lbs. He could lose 20 lbs. and gain back 10 in muscle mass. That means he would have to stop eating out and stop drinking. Whatever! Slacker is a “foodie”. That’s how he can relate to Christy.

Steve loves to eat as well, but getting all the compliments he gets being thinner is worth more than the pleasure of the food. He plans on loosing another 8 and then he’ll be at his happiest.
Slacker wants to know if any fitness trainers have any advice for Christy. Or is there anyone else out there that feels the way Christie feels?

Do you think she’s crazy for wanting to GAIN the weight back or would you recommend she stay thin?

I know a few people that have lost the weight and struggle to keep it off. At the same time I know people that have lost the weight and will never look back! I think it’s a lifestyle change. Either you like the change or you revert. Commitment is never easy! NO real advice from me. It’s her body, do what you feel. You will feel the difference and then make changes accordingly! Best of Luck!
