OPP: How Do I Tell My Wife
“Yi guys! I need your advice on how to tell my wife she needs to change the way she dresses. She wears the same summer clothes she did back in 2007 even though she's gained at least 20 pounds since then. The clothes are tight-fitting and often draw stares and smirks when we are out in public. Sometimes she'll wear a half shirt that fails to cover her protruding belly. I love my wife and don't want to hurt her feelings. How can I get her to change clothes? What should I say?
Slacker and Steve both agree that Luke is coming at this with kindness in his heart. He’s not asking her to lose weight, but rather asking her to cover up her new body with new clothing. Lil D thinks Luke is a douche for asking for this because he’s only thinking about himself and how he looks.
What advice do you have?
I like the fact that Luke has said nothing about her losing weight. That shows he honestly loves her and he wants the best for her. Yes, her wardrobe may make him uncomfortable because she’s drawing unnecessary attention; however, he’s trying to protect both of them from judgment. I do see how she would be offended (I hate when people bring up my weight or appearance- good or bad- it just makes me uncomfortable); however, one way to do it would be to treat her to a spontaneous shopping spree. Since women are extremely touchy and sensitive, as a man he’d be killing two or three birds with one stone: help her to cover her new body, treat her to a day that’s all about her, and, you know, spontaneity… and stuff.
