Today’s OPP is as follows…
Yi! My husband and I are in a serious financial bind this holiday. His small business took a major loss this year, and holiday shopping and spending are on the back burner for us. We have two little girls, one in preschool and the other in first grade. My question is, do I have to do holiday teacher gifts this year? My youngest has one teacher and two aides in her classroom, so, in total, I would have to buy four teacher gifts. Do you have to buy gifts for your kids' teachers?
Slacker says that you can’t put a price on what teachers do for our kids these days, and if he could he would shower teachers with gifts but… If something is asked or expected of him he wants nothing to do with giving. Steve says that he still will give but once someone asks or expects something of him, it’s taking away the joy of being able to do it without being asked.
Do you think it’s necessary to buy gifts for your kids teachers?
I don’t have kids yet so I’m trying to recall what, if anything, my parents did for my teachers when I was a kid. I’m pretty sure that we gave gifts to our teachers but they weren’t things that we went out and bought. We made things like ornaments, cards and decorations to give to our teachers. I don’t think that buying a gift for anyone should be an obligation, so a teacher is no exception.
