OPP: 10 Year Old Bullied

Today’s OPP comes from a 10 year old and just for precaution, we will not be sharing his name:
Yi! Guys. At school life as a 10 year old kid is hard but kids bully me, two girls and a boy, I don't know what to do. I asked the teacher to help but nothing was working and this girl lets it roll off her back like nothing happened and its all peaches and cream but its not. Everything I do to is a new way to make fun of me. They always think I'm okay with it but I have feelings too and I did go to therapy and it did help a little but not enough. I do ask you to help with this and I don't know what to do. If anybody was bullied or their child was I would like to know how they dealt with it. Thank you for your time. ~
Slacker was bullied as a kid and he became a goof ball. He used humor as a defense and then it stopped or in other words, they left him alone. It’s a lot more fun for the bullies to bully the ones that you can tell its hurting. Slacker knows Steve was mean, but he wouldn’t put him in the bully category. Steve’s advice is not something he wanted to say out loud, but he thinks he should bully the bully and then they will find an easier target. It’s giving them a taste of their own medicine. Slacker and Steve hope this story doesn’t end badly. Bullying used to be if you could get through the 8 hours of school and then it was over, but now it is none stop with facebook and text messages. You can’t escape when someone is trying to make you feel small.
Just last night I was looking through my twitter account and Demi Lovato tweeted about bullying. Yes, I follow Demi… She was talking about how cruel it was and how sorry she felt for the people that bullied others because something must have happened in their own life that made them that way. I couldn’t help but retweet what she said and I thought about what she said and how passionate she was about it. Bullying should not be taken lightly and I really hope he can find a way to get through it. The only advice I have is to take it in and know that it only helps you become a stronger person. Let it give you motivation to do great things. If he wants, maybe try the principal? I hate to see this happen and I wish I could give better advice but unfortunately, I just don’t know…
What advice do you have for him?
Peace. Love – Assistant Producer Stephanie

How this brings back bad memories! I moved here to the USA in 1972 as a 2nd grader, imwas bullied by a girl for over 1 year. Finally I told mu uncle and he said "do what you need to to show her and others you can stand up for yourself. So I did the first chance I got! We were on the monkey bars, where she was being mean and tryimg to hurt me, I jumped to the top, reached down to grab her hair and tied her pig tails in tight knots. I did get in trouble at school but then everything came out and she ended up getting in trouble as well. Ishe never talked to me again after that day, infect she avoided me all together. I would say take care of it and get an older teenager to back you up. Fighting isn't the best answer but sometimes it's what's needed! Good luck little buddy, your not alone so ask for help and be strong.

Hope this helps...
My seventh grade year was beyond imagining for how bad I was bullied. It lasted the whole year and I had kids from all three grades (7-8-9) that would corner me in the school yard or try to follow me home. I used to hide in banks and gas stations to avoid being jumped. I didn't have anyone to go to or get help from, my parents and teachers never got involved. It was a difficult year for me, and I don't wish that on anyone. However, a part of me is grateful for the lessons it taught me and the strength it gave me. Just remember that these kids are just that. Kids. They probably have some bad things they are dealing with that have nothing to do with you. And that is the key. It has nothing to do with you. Just ride it out, knowing that you will be a stronger person when it's over. They, on the other hand, will never be as strong as you. Take care friend:)
