LIFEGUARD GETS FIRED AFTER HELPING RESCUE A GUY WHO WAS DROWNING...BECAUSE???... HE STEPPED OUTSIDE HIS ZONE TO DO IT
A lifeguard rushed down Hallandale Beach in Florida to rescue a guy who was drowning… then got fired for it. The problem: he stepped out of the beach zone his company is paid to patrol. Company officials said he broke a rule that could've put beachgoers in his designated area in jeopardy. They said they could have been sued. Quoting: "We have liability issues and can't go out of the protected area. What he did was his own decision. He knew the company rules and did what he thought he needed to do." The 21-year-old lifeguard said, "I ran out to do the job I was trained to do. I didn't think about it at all." At least two other lifeguards have quit in protest.
Slacker says it doesn’t matter whether the lifeguard is doing his job or not. Rules are rules! The rules say you are not allowed to leave your area because of liability reasons. Don’t do it. Period. Slacker also would want to go save the guys life, but there’s so much that goes wrong if you step outside your zone. This lifeguard saved a life, flailing in the ocean for pete’s sake! Just don’t break the freakin’ law to do it!
Steve is totally perturbed, but you broke the law. You were wrong to break the law. Steve knows it’s the right thing to do, but you weren’t hired to step in the way of someone else’s fate.
Whose side are you on?
I say screw it, be a hero. I always go with my gut, regardless. Do you really think the company that employed this guy is going to side with him? Either way, he’s damned. Would you rather live with knowing a guy possibly died while you sat around on the other side of the line? I wouldn’t! I was looking for a job when I found this one and I’ll be looking for a job when I leave!
