Today Stephanie and Doug joined us live on the air for another Great Mate Debate:
Stephanie is having a really hard time. Her cat that she’s had for 17 years passed away last week. Her name is Molly and she’s had her since college, before she even met her husband. She wants to have people over, a catered event, a slideshow and she wants everyone to be able to share their memories of her. She feels like her cat touched so many people’s lives and wants to honor her memory in the right way. Doug thinks this is going a little far. First, he wants to say his wife is the most fantastic woman in the world and he knows he hasn’t been around as long as Molly, but he did love the cat. However, he doesn’t see all his friends getting dressed up in a suit and tie and coming over for a cat! He doubts they would get dress up and go to his funeral. He’s okay with setting up a little place in the backyard, but putting on your Sunday best and getting catering for a cat doesn’t seem ideal.
Slacker loves his dog Mojo more than anything. He just turned 11 years old, but when he goes, he doesn’t think he would put on an elaborate funeral for him. He thinks Steve would punch him in the face if he sent out an e-mail asking him to join them in celebrating Mojo’s life once he passes away…And Steve has plenty of memories with Mojo.
During the conversation, Slacker happened to get a case of the giggles. He didn’t mean to take things to lightly, but couldn’t help but laugh at the Molly slideshow. Steve adding on, was asking what kind of song there would be playing in the background?
With that said, whose side are you on?
I love animals. I cried for weeks when my first dog passed away and although I loved her with all my heart, an elaborate funeral didn’t even cross my mind. I feel awful that it didn’t but I will always hold those memories close, as will the people that shared memories of their own with her.
