Slacker & Steve's Blog

It FrYiday!!!!!

TLC is promoting the new season of its reality show Extreme Cheapskates with clips showing a woman who puts the “cheap” in “cheapskate.”

A New Yorker named Kay says it’s been years since she used a washer and dryer to clean her clothes. “Whenever I have dirty clothes, I try to wash them while I'm showering … I think the last time I did laundry was maybe three years ago," she says.

So, how does Kay get her clothes Springtime Fresh? She uses free samples of laundry detergent to lather up her laundry while she’s cleaning herself in the shower. She then hangs everything to dry in the shower.

If you think that’s cheap, you haven’t heard anything yet. Instead of toilet paper, Kay uses a squirt bottle filled with water.

Quote of The Day: “I don't believe in spending money on something you're just gonna throw away such as toilet paper and paper towels,” Kay says.

Slacker’s used to wash straws and rinse out Ziploc bags so he can re-use. His mom used to save aluminum foil after she made a casserole. Then she would reuse the foil to wrap the cans of soda to keep them cold and the sandwich would be wrapped in foil as well. When his family went to other people’s house for dinner, they would swipe their foil as well.

Steve can’t remember a time when he didn’t have a silver spoon in his mouth, so he can’t participate in this one by offering an example of being a cheapskate...

What have you’ve done to save a buck?

I also rinse out Ziploc's when I travel with my 5th wheel trailer. No need to waste the damn things. Other than that I support commerce and recycle and buy new most of the time.
