Lee DeWyze is an American singer-songwriter who was the winner of American Idol. DeWyze auditioned in Chicago at the United Center for the 9th season of American Idol on June 22, 2009. He auditioned with the song "Ain't No Sunshine". He was one of only 13 people from Chicago, the lowest number out of all 7 audition cities, to make it through to Hollywood week.
Prior to Idol, DeWyze had a solo career and formed the Lee DeWyze Band. He had also released two independent albums called So I'm Told in 2007 and Slumberland in 2010, both on WuLi Records. A coast to coast flight from LA to New York had to make an emergency landing in Kansas City, MO to
remove an out of control passenger who was singing Whitney Houston songs. She was "being disruptive and was removed from the plane for interfering with the flight crew." An in-flight air marshal subdued the woman and cuffed her before they landed and took her off the flight. As she was leaving the plane she was belting out a terrible rendition of "I Will Always Love You."
